RISING STARS

STAGE 2 DANCE JOURNEY

Image

STOP! Are you a parent struggling to spark your child's confidence?

Or on the other hand do they have too much extra energy and could use a little downtime?

I totally get it. The first few years of big school can be a HUGE change for your little one and can be really hard to navigate for you, the parent, as well.

You are run off your feet trying to remember every little detail of things coming up. You're racking your brain trying to work out how you can best support them as they handle the adversities of friendships at school. And on top of that, you can't seem to keep them still when they come home from school; bursting with energy!

You're not alone.

Trust me. I hear this all the time.

So, I decided to devise a junior school dance curriculum that I know works.

A curriculum that I promise, will:

💎

Ignite confidence

and have them smiling and engaging with others

💎

Nurture their imagination and give them a platform to express creativity

💎

Spark gorgeous, supportive friendships, built with love & kindness

💎

Introduce them to the foundations of dance and build their gross motor skills

"Since our daughter has started dance lessons, she loves it and her confidence has grown.” - Celia, mum at Jigsaw

INTRODUCING OUR 1ST YEAR DANCE LEVEL:
TOPAZ STEPPING STONE COMBO
Designed for Kindergartens

We have devised a beautiful Topaz Stepping Stone Combo Dance Program that is designed to transition the little ones into the next level of their dancing adventure; whilst keeping it fun, imaginative and relaxed so they can settle into school at the same time!

These unique 40 minute classes – comprised of Ballet, Jazz & Mini Yoga Meditation – are the perfect stepping stone into school life, as they allow the dancers to continue with their creative movement without draining their energy.

These classes run earlier in the afternoon and also have a 5 minute feedback session at the end of class, so the teachers can keep the parents updated with their dancers’ progress.

We also start these classes one week after school starts back, so they can have a full week of big school before adding dancing back into their routine. We know how much our young dancers love the Mini Stars program, so this Stepping Stone Combo incorporates the same props and music that they simply adore.

INTRODUCING OUR 2ND YEAR DANCE LEVEL:
SAPPHIRE PROGRAM
Designed for dancers in grade 1 - 2 at school

In their 2nd year, your dancer will continue to develop the skills learnt in the Topaz level; but will expand on these steps and learn more advanced variations of the foundation steps. They will also be exposed to more advanced choreography and combinations to continue to develop and challenge each individual dancer.

BALLET: Ballet forms the basis of all dance technique and has a large focus on body
placement, posture and performance quality. Although classes are run in a fun and nurturing
environment and students do not sit for exams, the classes are still taught from a set syllabus
allowing students to learn the correct technique and terminology.

JAZZ: Modern and upbeat, this class is full of fun and laughs and is a great way to stay active
while also making new friends. In this age level, students learn the basic fundamentals of Jazz
and start to develop their own creative and independent thinking.

HIP HOP/JAZZ FUNK HIP HOP (JFH): These classes focus on introducing students to modern and urban style dance technique, whilst also focusing on accented movement, isolations and cool tricks. These classes run to trendy and hip music whilst still being fun and age appropriate.

TAP: This style is all about sounds and rhythm and as such a large focus is placed on timing
and musicality, helping to develop their ear for music. At this level the basic fundamentals of
tap are taught incorporating a well-rounded warm-up, barre work and combinations to
develop the whole dancer. We also have this class available for our Topaz students on a Saturday morning!

Programs that are thoughtfully planned out, combined with nurturing and gentle teachers who understand different personality types and needs; is what builds trust and connection within the classroom.

WHEN THERE IS TRUST AND CONNECTION

Your child will feel safe enough to engage and interact with their teacher and peers.

When this happens, you will see the shift, as they run into class with a huge smile on their face; bursting with confidence.

YOU WILL SIMPLY LOVE:

The flexibility and empathy that we offer - we run the studio from the perspective of a busy, everyday parent and know that sometimes things come up and you need to change class or miss a day - that's cool with us!

The regular, organised communication and transparency - we like to give you information up front so you have ample time to plan and know what to expect from the get go. We also think it's important to keep you informed about your child's progress.

That we run our studio on set core values and believe in providing a happy, fun and exciting place to visit. We are happy to answer questions, we won't yell at your kids and we strive to make it as easy and convenient as possible for you.

The stress-free and relaxed concerts that we put on for your dancer's - no sewing, no tricky hair changes, no pressure on your kids and no need for extra days of rehearsals and technical runs (one day is enough!)

FIRST YEAR PROGRAM LEVEL

Topaz - Grade at School: Kindergarten

SECOND YEAR PROGRAM LEVEL

Sapphire - Grade at School: Grade 1 & 2

We will be able to guide you as to which class would be perfect for your child. Students are not placed in

classes based primarily on their age, but experience, ability and friends are important factors that can

determine what class is best suited for them.

Our teachers are trained in nurturing each individual child's personality type, ability and overall class dynamics.

CLASS TIMES

We have both our Topaz and Sapphire classes running throughout the week at all of our studio locations. For those parents who work full time we, conveniently have classes on a Saturday, that would be perfect for you.

CLASS UNIFORM

Just like at school, we have a set uniform in place to promote a sense of belonging, team spirit and allow teachers to correct dancers accurately. For our Topaz dancers, we have an all in one Leotard/Dress Combo as seen on the right. For our Sapphire level and above, we have various options available to suit each style of dance. These can all be purchased via the studio, with shoes being the only item needing to be sourced externally.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT ON YOUR 1ST LESSON

When you arrive, we will greet your rising star and get down to their level to build a connection with them. After many years of experience, we are able to quickly identify each individual child's personality type and will generally be able to assess what they need in that moment of time.

For some children, what is best for them, is simply sitting and watching for a little bit with their parent until they feel ready to participate. For others it may be that mum needs to wait outside and watch from the door as they will get too distracted otherwise. Each child's needs are different and we will work with you to ensure they feel completely comfortable and ready to participate, in their own time.

All we ask back, is that you work with us and trust our guidance. For some kids (particularly very anxious children) forcing them to join in when they are clearly very upset, will actually have a worsened effect and result in the child becoming very distressed and never wanting to join in again.

Throughout the lesson, we will make your child feel really welcome and will pair them up with a dance buddy, we think they will connect with. We always like to make them feel super special and will often be seen complicating each and every dancer. Don't worry if it is their first time - we don't expect them to know the steps yet and will go over everything slowly or teach a brand new combo, so they are never at a disadvantage if they have started later in the year.

Depending on the child, we will usually suggest that parents wait with the other parents outside the room, not only so they can get to know their new dance friends but also so the child can experience the class without getting distracted and so we can see how they respond. Of course, if your child needs you there or becomes upset, we will always come to get you.

At the end of the class, we will gift your child a special present to say thank you for coming along and will provide you with some more information on how to enrol. Over the week we will be in touch, just to answer any questions you may have and provide feedback about their trial.
