Our July Spotlight Patient

Gaye Brown

Tell us about yourself (interest, work, anything interesting, etc.)

My name is Gaye and I have just been fitted with hearing aids from Abby at Hobsonville Hearing. I love gardening and cooking and being with my family, which is what life is all about. Before I retired, I was a bridal consultant to a few high profile bridal designers. My job was to find out what the bride was looking for and try on different dress styles and shapes. We talked about fabrics, detail, embellishment, etc. before the designer came in and added the final details. Often brides would have an idea in their head that was completely wrong for their body shape - it was up to me to show them how wrong or how good it could be. I still have an interest in sewing and crafty things.

Tell us about your hearing loss and when you first noticed it

I first noticed my hearing deteriorating about 4 years ago. It was getting progressively worse, then my husband passed away suddenly a few months ago and I could hardly hear at all.

"To say I am delighted is an understatement! Every morning when I put them in I am so grateful as it has made such a difference to my life. My confidence is so much better and I am very comfortable with them."

Prior to getting hearing aids, how did your hearing loss impact your life and at what point did you realise you needed to do something about your hearing?

I am quite a social person and enjoy meeting people but I had lost all confidence through lack of hearing. I had stopped taking part in conversations, plus I drove my family mad by them having to repeat everything they said.

Did you do any research about hearing solutions before coming to Hobsonville Hearing?

I had originally been to two other high-profile hearing clinics and was very disappointed in their general attitude and the way they conducted their testing. They hounded me with phone calls and their quotes were very high.

Tell us about your hearing aid journey and how it has impacted your day-to-day life

Abby was so patient and calm, explaining the processes to me with regard to testing. She chose the perfect brand for me - the cost was very reasonable and I am thrilled with the result. To say I am delighted is an understatement! Every morning when I put them in I am so grateful as it has made such a difference to my life. My confidence is so much better and I am very comfortable with them. Thank you so much, Abby, I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending your clinic! As well, Phoebe, your receptionist is delightful and so helpful.

What advice would you give to people seeking treatment for hearing loss?

I would advise anyone whose hearing is diminishing to book in for a hearing assessment  with Abby. You may not think you need hearing aids at this stage but I think it's a really good idea to do so before your hearing gets worse - in hindsight I would have done it earlier as it does have a big impact on your health and confidence.

An Update on our New Space

In the last couple of weeks, there has been a huge amount of progress for our new space! If you're interested, click on the image and watch a quick video tour on YouTube. Fingers and toes crossed for an early September move in date.

HealthNow

We have recently become a provider of HealthNow, a payment tool which enables you to access healthcare services without the upfront cost being a barrier. HealthNow offers three ways to pay through their app or online portal:

HealthNow Pay Later makes healthcare easier by breaking costs into weekly payments, just like with a retail payment plan service. Spread your payments across 2 to 12 weeks. With 0% interest, it's an easy way to make health costs easier.

Employer Aid allows employers to offer health benefits via the HealthNow portal. They can set an annual credit amount for employees to spend on health services, including GP, dental and other allied health services (including audiology). This amount and top-up frequency is at the employer's discretion.

Health Saver gives you the ability to put aside money on a regular basis - preparing you for those unexpected health expenses. These savings are ready to spend on treatment when you need it.

As always, we are here to help you with all of your ear-related needs:

Or visit our clinic during our opening hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm.
